I wish I was there

Lesvos, February 2017

I have been asked to cover the places reached by the refugees in the last two years.

From 2015 until today, more than 370,000 refugees have passed through Lesvos. There are currently around 5,000 living on the island.

I mainly focused on the remnants and traces of the refugees.

There were intense moments. One of the most striking, the landfill with thousands of life jackets and abandoned inflatable boats.

The locals care about the refugees. They speak with warmth, but a great silence eclipses our conversations about the rugged cemetery with dozens of strangers buried.
